Controller

This position, reporting to the CFO/President, is accountable for leading the Finance team in managing the financial and accounting policies, systems and processes, tax and regulatory requirements, payroll and ongoing financial modeling and annual business planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Controller is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining sound accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.

The Controller is responsible for the definition and implementation of standard accounting methods and procedures throughout the company. This role analyzes actual costs versus contracted costs and prepares reports of variances; it also computes cost value of work in process, and complies cost data for the preparation of operating budgets.

This individual is responsible for the general ledger, job cost management, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and account receivables. Additional responsibilities include performing monthly closings, maintenance of accounting files, and preparation/organization of various financial forms, reports, and financial analyses, and compliance. The position will help the organization achieve its strategic and financial objectives by executing on deliverables such as:

  • Monitor and accurately report Company profitability to include job profitability; unapplied contract-related costs; general and administrative expenses; and financing related expenses and investment income.
  • Liquidity analysis and management to include identifying future cash needs and planning to meet those needs, and forecasting the Company’s financial condition and financing requirements and providing periodic comparisons of such forecasts to actual conditions.
  • Maintain an adequate system of accounting records, implementing a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Company’s reported financial results.
  • Ensure reported results comply with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and maintain the chart of accounts.
  • Match payables to job for costing determinations.
  • Review posted transactions for accuracy.
  • Review AIA billing as well as general invoicing.
  • Ensure client billing is accurate and processed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly.
  • Produce monthly percentage of completion reports for month-end close.
  • Communicate routinely with Owners and Project Managers on a variety of job-related topics including costs incurred to date, estimated costs to complete insurance, and contract agreements.
  • In collaboration with operations, develop a strong comprehensive cost accounting function team including AR/AP, Payroll, GL, and cost accounting.
  • Participate in the formation and implementation of Company financial plans.
  • Preparation of all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Manage Company and project cash flow.
  • Manage external audits including G/L liability, workers compensation, sales and use tax audits, the annual insurance renewal audit, and other on-demand external audits.
  • Support and lead internal and external reporting requirements as it related to the Board of Directors, Investors, and various federal industry required compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial/accounting principles, practices and standards as applied to government contracting environment
  • Develop written accounting procedures for the operations staff and work with the team to ensure proper compliance.
  • Assure the selection, appraisal, and development of accounting personnel consistent with Company values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting plus 7 – 10+ years of accounting experience. Experience as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) supervising staff is highly desirable.
  • 7-10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years of construction industry experience.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, other Accounting Software, Crystal reports, and Databases.
  • Preferred knowledge in Spectrum Software
  • Ability to meet deadlines and remain positive under a demanding workload.
  • Ability to manage and protect confidential data, information, and strategic planning.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of urgency, initiative, and exceptional analytical skills.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality in all business matters

Senior Project Manager

The principle responsibility of this position is to oversee entire projects from the bid hand-off through the final acceptance by customer. The PM is responsible for doing everything required for the company to earn the maximum fair profit on each project.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and oversee all company projects to ensure timely completion and within budget
  • Maintain good communication skills between the company, client, general contractor, architect, designers, engineers, and consultants.
  • Work with operations and field team to ensure quality of work.
  • Scheduling and coordinating all job activities including subcontractors
  • Job site meetings with owners, architects, engineers to resolve problems and changes to schedule.
  • Develops business with new and existing customers and maintains contact with customers to ensure their satisfaction.
  • Provide the core leadership and training required to guide the project management team to success.

What we are looking for:

  • Must have experience as a large-scale Project Manager in the commercial and industrial space. Specific emphasis on design build and negotiated work is desired.
  • Advanced experience with the preconstruction and design process
  • Strong decision making, organizational and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong mathematical skills to facilitate cost estimate, area calculation, and cost monitoring.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or Architecture or equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to read and interpret all trade blueprints, drawings, and submittals.
  • Must be able to understand, draft, negotiate, and finalize favorable contract documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, MS Project, Viewpoint Spectrum, Accubid, Procore, Bluebeam, and PDA device preferred
